GNTC Celebrates Spring 2025 Graduates at Commencement Ceremony

Approximately 200 graduates from Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) crossed the stage at the Forum River Center in Rome on Thursday, April 24, cheered on by proud families, friends, and instructors during GNTC’s 2025 Spring Commencement Ceremony.

The evening began with a formal processional of students, faculty, and administrators. Donny Holmes, Program Director and Instructor of Construction Management, delivered the invocation. GNTC President Dr. Heidi Popham welcomed attendees and offered her heartfelt congratulations to the graduates.

“Some of you had an easy journey; others faced obstacles every semester,” Dr. Popham said. “But each of you made it here tonight. No matter the challenges, you overcame them—and your future is incredibly bright.”

Stuart Phillips, Vice President of Student Affairs and Student Success, introduced the keynote speaker: Robert Branum, GNTC’s 2025 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL) winner. Branum, a student at the Catoosa County Campus, shared his inspiring story of resilience, having transitioned from a 20-year career as a chef to studying Cybersecurity after an accident left him disabled.

“At 46, I had to choose whether I would let my disability define me—or redefine myself,” Branum said. “GNTC gave me a second chance.”

He reminded graduates that no matter their age or circumstances, they have the power to pursue new dreams.

Legare Price, Associate Vice President of Student Success, honored High Honor and Honor graduates, as well as veterans and members of FBLA Collegiate, SkillsUSA, and Student Government Association.

Dr. Elizabeth Anderson, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness, presented the graduates. Dr. Popham conferred associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Before closing remarks by Dr. Anderson, Price administered the GNTC Alumni Association Oath.
